Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up my e-mail for use on ResNet?

In order to set up and read your e-mail on ResNet, you will need a mail client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora Pro, etc.) and a POP account. Most students should already have an account from the Office of Information Technology (OIT).  The account consists of a username (your name.# such as smith.3456) and a password.

You need the following to set up your e-mail client:

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.service.ohio-state.edu
  • Incoming mail (POP): pop.service.ohio-state.edu
  • Account name: (your name.#)
  • Password: your password
  • You are connecting via a local area network (LAN)
  • You are using a POP3 e-mail server

If you do not have an account with OIT or need to change your password go to  http://oit.osu.edu/userpass.html.

If you do not have an e-mail client, OIT has a site license for Eudora Pro.  This software is free to any OSU student, faculty, or staff.
